First I will review your medical history and question you about your symptoms. This inquiry will include an observation of your tongue and checking your radial pulse on both wrists. I am not timing the beats, instead I am determining the quality of the pulse in order to complete my diagnosis.
After determining a tcm diagnosis and treatment strategy I will place the needles while you recline comfortably. I usually use l2 needles or less. The needles are very thin, and the sensation of insertion is a slight pinch similar to a mosquito bite. Accompanying the insertion is also a subtle feeling of pressure or distention in the area which signals the arrival of Qi. This sensation is important for the success of the procedure.
After the needles have been placed, most patients report a feeling of profound calm and relaxation and many fall asleep. I then allow you to rest quietly for about 30 minutes with the needles in place. I then remove the needles and dispose of them. If an herbal formula was indicated, I will give you the prescription at that time and book the next treatment.
